Abstract

Experimental bioreactor landfill operations at operating municipal solid waste landfills can be approved under the research development and demonstration provisions of 40 CFR 258.4. To provide a basis for consistent data collection for future decision making in support of the newly promulgated requirements, this document outlines an approach for bioreactor landfill monitoring. This document suggests technical guidance only and is not intended to be used for regulatory purposes.

This document does not take the place of site-specific considerations, nor does it imply that alternative professional determinations on monitoring and analysis methods are not appropriate. The ongoing research on and experience with bioreactor landfill projects have provided the basis for this document; however, advances in monitoring and analysis methods may warrant future updates.
