Hazardous Waste Data Systems Compliance and Enforcement

Data Systems

The following data systems support the enforcement and compliance assurance program for hazardous waste and site cleanups.

RCRAInfo is a comprehensive information system, providing access to data supporting the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) of 1976
and the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA) of 1984. RCRAInfo contains both programmatic and enforcement information regarding the solid/hazardous waste program, including facility status, regulated activities and compliance data.

RCRAInfo replaces two earlier systems - the Biennial Reporting System (BRS) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Information System (RCRIS).

The hazardous waste data systems support the Agency's hazardous waste compliance assistance, hazardous waste compliance monitoring, and air civil enforcement.

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Information System (CERCLIS) database contains general information on hazardous waste sites and potential hazardous waste sites across the nation and US territories including location, status, contaminants, and cleanup and enforcement actions taken at each site.

The EPA Emergency Response Notification System (ERNS) data base contains reports of oil discharges and chemical releases. ERNS now resides outside of EPA's Web site at the National Response Center (NRC).
