Coastal Hazards Planning

The GIS Integration and Development (I&D) program is working to reduce the environmental, social, and economic impacts from coastal hazards by providing new information, geospatial data, training, decision-support tools, and technical support to coastal and emergency managers.

Coastal communities bear the brunt of many natural hazards. Emergency managers, planners, and other practitioners realize the seriousness of hurricanes, coastal flooding, and storm surge and understand that preparedness and mitigation can help protect them against these hazards.

GIS I&D works with coastal and emergency managers to ensure they have the tools and information they need to protect their communities. Projects range from the development and delivery of training, workshops, and outreach materials to development of GIS-based decision-support tools and technical assistance.
