Chunking Content (2 of 3)

Microcontent

Microcontent refers to Web text that has been written, edited, and rewritten to eliminate as many words as possible while still conveying the original meaning. The effective use of photo captions, subheadings, and bulleted lists are keys to microcontent. In fact the emerging norm of the Web is bulleted lists, with paragraphs limited to conveying a single idea.

When transferring text from print media to the Web, aim to edit out 75 percent of the original print text. Obviously, you cannot do this for full research papers, abstracts, etc. But it is a great idea to provide short summaries of all such content on your Web site, with links to the full versions as necessary.

Eliminate as many words as possible to create "microcontent."
