Anniston Army Depot to Benefit with $933 Million for
Stryker 4th Brigade; $155 Million for Abrams Upgrades;

Washington, DC  -  The U.S. House of Representatives passed a $370 billion defense appropriations conference report today, a bill that includes significant funding for projects assembled at the Anniston Army Depot, Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks) said today.

H.R. 2658, the 2004 Defense Appropriations Conference Report, provides $933 million for the construction of 301 vehicles in the Stryker’s fourth brigade. The Depot is currently assembling the Stryker’s 3rd brigade and with the passage of this legislation is expected to begin work on the 4th brigade some time in early 2005. The bill passed the House 407-15 and the Senate will soon consider identical legislation.

The conference report also contains $155 million to continue upgrades on 43 of the Army’s M1A2 Abrams tanks.

“Today’s vote is a strong show of support for the men and women of the Anniston Army Depot,” Rogers said. “Clearly, their work continues to provide vital support for our troops overseas, and I will continue to do whatever it takes to fight on their behalf.”

Rogers also said the legislation contains $35 million in advance funding for the Stryker’s 5th and 6th brigades which will help pay for procurement of specialty parts and upgrades to the current vehicle’s technology and armor. The bill also contains $5 million for the Depot’s missile recycling program.
