Rep. Rogers Named Homeland Subcommittee Chairman
Responsible for Department Management, Organization
Will chair Subcommittee on Management, Integration, and Oversight

Washington, DC  -  Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) was named Tuesday evening by Homeland Security Committee Chairman Christopher Cox (R-CA) to chair the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Management, Integration, and Oversight.

The subcommittee is one of five established to ensure that the primary homeland security legislative and oversight committee in Congress achieves its mission.  The other four subcommittees are:

• Prevention of Nuclear and Biological Attack
• Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment
• Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Cybersecurity
• Emergency Preparedness, Science, and Technology

“One of the Homeland Security Committee’s fundamental missions is to ensure that the Department of Homeland Security is organized to protect America from terrorist attack,” Chairman Cox said. “Mike’s decade of experience in public service, his expertise in national security and public administration, and the respect he has won from his colleagues in the House all will serve him and the nation well in this new endeavor.  The challenges faced by the Department of Homeland Security have been well-documented.  Mike has a big job in front of him, and I’m confident he will succeed.”

“I am honored to chair the Subcommittee on Management, Integration and Oversight, and look forward to working with Chairman Cox and my colleagues on the committee to help ensure the Department of Homeland Security is working as hard as it can to protect our citizens from those who wish to do us harm,” Rogers said after the announcement.

Among the matters the subcommittee is expected to review is the effectiveness of the Homeland Security Department’s top officials, including the Under Secretary for Management, the Chief Information Officer, and the Chief Financial Officer.

The committee will also examine whether changes are necessary in the unique departmental structure created by the Homeland Security Act of 2002, as well as review investigations and reports by the DHS Inspector General and recommend corrective action.
