Visits Talladega College
Meets with TC President Dr. Henry Ponder, Tours Campus

Talladega, Ala.  -  East Alabama’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities are invaluable and historic assets for all Americans and we must continue to do everything we can to support their missions, Congressman Mike Rogers said in Talladega today. Rogers made the remarks this morning at Talladega College, the first of three universities he plans to visit this week during his tour of the Third District’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

“Talladega College, like all of East Alabama’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities, is a unique and invaluable institution in the history of our nation’s African Americans,” Rogers said. “We must do all we can to continue to support its mission locally and ensure future generations of students have the same, or better, opportunities for continued academic success.”

Rogers began his visit to Talladega College this morning with a meeting with TC president Dr. Henry Ponder. The officials discussed issues of importance to the university, including its recent success in strengthening its accreditation. Rogers said he recently secured $100,000 for Talladega College to develop a new technology-based curriculum for distance learning in conjunction with the school’s Amistad Center for Research, Training, and Development.

Talladega College is the first visit on Rogers’ tour of the Third District’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Later today, Rogers planned to visit Alabama State University in Montgomery and on Wednesday, Tuskegee University in Macon County.
