Rogers on Eastern Parkway:
$2 Million Likely This Year
House Transport Appropriations Subcommittee Approves Funding

Washington, DC  -  Calhoun County’s Eastern Parkway would receive $2 million in federal funding this year under an appropriations bill passed out of a key House transportation subcommittee, Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks) said today.

The House Transportation and Treasury Appropriations Subcommittee agreed late last week to include Rogers’ 2003 request for Eastern Parkway construction spending, totaling $3 million Rogers has secured for the project this year. In February, Rogers negotiated an additional $1 million for the highway.

“The Eastern Parkway is vital to the economic security of northeast Alabama,” Rogers said. “I am pleased we are making progress on the highway, and will continue to ensure Congress knows the importance of this project.”

The Transportation appropriations bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee next week, where it is expected to pass for full consideration in the House. The bill funds the U.S. Department of Transportation, highway construction, and other federal transportation projects.
