Rogers Announces High Tech Equipment for Clay County
Local law enforcement to receive video and rescue equipment

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Clay County law enforcement officials should soon have new cutting-edge devices to help fight fires and better protect local citizens, Congressman Mike Rogers said today.

Rogers said two devices would be awarded locally. The first is known as a Modular Portable Video System, which is battery powered and assists first responders in performing a variety of inspections, including vehicle cargo and security sweeps. The equipment is worth $7,416.

Additionally, another device, known as an AMKUS (gasoline powered), will assist first responders in cutting into automobiles and other vehicles in emergency situations. The equipment is worth $17,167.

“These high tech tools should be helpful to local fire and rescue teams,” Rogers said. “I am delighted the federal government has chosen to make these investments locally, and hope these devices will help support the ongoing efforts of Clay County law enforcement.”

Rogers said the departments awarded include: the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, which will receive the Modular Portable Video System; and the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department, which will be awarded the AMKUS.

Rogers is Ranking Member of the Homeland Security subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight.  Funding for the program is administered under the FY06 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP), which included an expanded selection of equipment and is overseen by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
