Alabama State to Receive $223,000 for College-Bound Support Programs
Grant Encourages Disadvantaged High School Students to Pursue
College Degrees in Math ad Science

Washington, DC  -  Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks) announced today Alabama State University will receive $222,916 for programs that encourage students from disadvantaged families to pursue college degrees in math and science.

The grant, administered by the United States Department of Education, provides students with opportunities to learn from university faculty and other professionals who are engaged in research or applied science.

“A college degree helps provide the foundations for lifelong success,” Rogers said. “I am pleased to see Alabama high school students now have even more support for these types of studies.”

The Upward Bound Math-Science Program serves high school students who are from low-income families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and who are preparing to enter postsecondary education.

The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in these fields.
