How Users View and Use Web Sites (2 of 6)

Why Do People Use the Internet?

When developing Web content or designing a site, it is important to remember why various audiences are utilizing the Internet. Even if your audience are strictly scientists or researchers, their main goals for using the web are the same. Generally you can group these into six categories:

  • Find general information about a subject
  • Access information not easily available elsewhere
  • Obtain software or specialized tools
  • Correspond with people
  • To get feedback from the public
  • Learn
  • Have fun
