Current Conditions

Peavy Cabin Road (Forest Road 380) is closed due to extensive flood damage. To access the Peavy Trail Trailhead (Trail # 1640) park by the barricade near the highway Link to more information

Hells Canyon Scenic Byway/Wallowa Mountains Loop (Forest Road 39) is open and maintained for public use from Halfway to Joseph.

Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway/Anthony Lakes Highway is open and maintained.

Construction work:

  • North Powder River Bridge - Rough road due to construction project from bridge 2.3 miles up the mountain.
  • Approximately 1.2 miles north of Granite - may experience delays of up to 15 minutes on a quarter-mile stretch of road. Project completion Sept. 24, 2008.

The Crane Creek culvert replacement project on the Granite site of the highway is completed and the nine-mile stretch of road is open to traffic.

Bridges

Tamarack Campground Foot Bridge - Broken and in the river as a result of high water flow.

Buck Creek Bridge - Closed. In May, due to safety concerns, the La Grande Ranger District will close the bridge on Forest Road 7787 where it crosses the North Fork Catherine Creek at Buck Creek. In July the bridge will be removed. more information
