Drinking Water Research

EPA's Goal for 'Clean Water'
"Ensure drinking water is safe. Restore and maintain oceans, watersheds, and their aquatic ecosystems to protect human health, support economic and recreational activities, and provide healthy habitat for fish, plants, and wildlife."

Drinking Water Research - EPA's goal is to ensure that all Americans have drinking water that is clean and safe to drink. ORD research provides the scientific foundation for EPA regulatory decisions and policies about drinking water. ORD's program is described more fully in a multi-year research plan. NERL's Drinking Water Research Program is an integral part of ORD's and is directed to help ORD achieve three long term goals: (1) provide scientific support for EPA's implementation and reevaluation of existing regulations; (2) provide a scientific foundation for decisions on emerging and currently unregulated contaminants; and (3) provide data, tools and technologies to protect source waters and distribution systems.
