Sandip K. Datta, M.D.
Chief, Bacterial Pathogenesis Section
Tenure-Track Investigator
Sandip Datta received his M.D. from University of California, San Francisco, in 1996. He then completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Datta was appointed as assistant professor of medicine at UCSD in 2004. In February 2008, he joined the LCID as tenure-track chief of the newly formed Bacterial Pathogenesis Section.
Description of Research Program
The Bacterial Pathogenesis Section is a new section in the LCID, with the goal of understanding how host-bacteria interactions shape subsequent immune responses and using this knowledge to modulate and optimize host defense. As a new laboratory, we are still in the exciting process of formulating and shaping our specific projects and directions. We will use cellular, animal model, and patient-based studies to investigate the following areas:
|
Listeria monocytogenes (red) form actin tails (green) in mouse dendritic cells. |
- Determinants of beneficial and pathologic immune responses to acute and chronic bacterial infections
- How bacteria shape T-cell differentiation
- How bacteria shape T-cell memory development
- Interplay between innate and adaptive immunity
