GOVERNOR URGES PRECAUTIONS TO BE HEALTHY AFTER FLOODING

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. As people in several parts of Illinois begin cleaning up homes flooded by flash flooding over the weekend, the Blagojevich Administration offered residents several tips for staying safe and healthy. Governor Blagojevich also assured flood-impacted communities that the state will continue to provide assistance to help them with flood recovery.

GOSPEL FEST ‘08 CELEBRATES BASUAH'S THIRD ANNIVERSARY

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. Governor Rod R. Blagojevich’s groundbreaking BASUAH (Brothers and Sisters United Against HIV/AIDS) Campaign will celebrate its third anniversary at Gospel Fest ‘08 in Springfield, which will include free HIV testing. Helping Illinois Department of Public Health Director (IDPH) Dr. Damon T. Arnold educate the public about HIV/AIDS and the need for testing will be National Baptist Convention of America President Reverend Stephen Thurston and gospel artists Smokie Norful and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Governor Blagojevich created BASUAH in September 2005 to address the alarming trend showing HIV/AIDS disproportionately impacts African-Americans.

ASIAN COMMUNITY WARNED ABOUT CHINESE BABY FORMULA

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Dr. Damon T. Arnold, state public health director, is informing Illinois residents of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) health advisory issued in response to reports of contaminated milk-based infant formula manufactured in China. The advisory is to assure the American public that there is no known threat of contamination in infant formula manufactured by companies that have met the requirements to sell infant formula in the United States. Although no Chinese manufacturers of infant formula have fulfilled the requirements to sell infant formula in the United States, FDA officials are investigating whether or not infant formula manufactured in China is being sold in specialty markets which serve the Asian community.
