  • Screening for Prostate Cancer: Sharing the Decision

CDC has developed a Web-based slide presentation, Screening for Prostate Cancer: Sharing the Decision, to help physicians explain prostate cancer and screening to patients more effectively.

The overall goals of the slide presentation are to

    • Increase primary care providers understanding of the uncertainty surrounding the evidence on the effectiveness of prostate cancer screening and the benefits and harms of screening; and

    • Encourage use of shared decision making and provide information about how to do it.

After viewing this slide show, physicians will have a better understanding of

    • The risks of prostate cancer and its natural history.

    • The potential benefits and possible harms of screening for and treating early stage prostate cancer.

    • How to use shared decision making with patients to help them decide whether to be screened for prostate cancer.

Slide Set for Health Care Providers
