Vernal, Utah—August 22, 2008—The Bureau of Land Management announces that the Proposed Resource Management Plan (PRMP) for the Vernal field office is available to the public. The release of the PRMP initiates a 30-day protest period. The BLM prepared these documents considering public comments received during the comment period for the Draft RMP, and in consultation with its cooperating agencies, the State of Utah, and counties within the Vernal planning area.

The Vernal field office received several thousand comment submissions on the Draft RMP.  All comments and the BLM’s responses are included with the document, which also highlights the changes made between the Draft RMP and the Proposed RMP.

The protest period begins August 22, 2008, the date the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published the Notice of Availability of the PRMP in the Federal Register, and concludes September 22, 2008.  After any protests are addressed, the BLM will issue a Record of Decision which will authorize the management decisions outlined in the RMP.

Information on the protest procedure can be found in the Proposed RMP and on the Vernal RMP website:  http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/vernal/planning.html. The website contains the entire Proposed RMP, along with the Draft RMP and supporting documents.  CDs and hard copies are available by contacting the Vernal Field Office at 170 South 500 East, Vernal, Utah 84078, or by calling (435) 781-4400.
