BLM Welcomes New St. George Field Office Manager

St. George Field Office Manager Jimmy TyreeSalt Lake City, Utah—June 16, 2008—Jimmy R. Tyree has been selected as the new St. George field office manager for the Bureau of Land Management.

“Jimmy will be a great addition to the BLM team. He has a diverse background and is very knowledgeable about the environment. With Jimmy’s leadership experience in the military I’m confident he will be an excellent team leader,” said Selma Sierra, BLM Utah state director.

In 1996 Tyree received his bachelor’s degree in Resource/Environment Management with a minor in Geology, and in 2001 he earned his master’s degree in Applied Geography with a concentration in Urban/Regional planning from Southwest Texas State University.

Tyree spent five years in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 49th Armored Division, serving from 1983 to 1989.

"I feel very privileged to have been selected for this position. The demands on our public lands are increasing and I look forward to being a part of the solution to furthering the sustainable use of the public's resources,” said Jimmy Tyree.

As the new field office manager, Tyree will oversee all activities in the field office. Tyree is currently the Deputy Director of Environmental Affairs with the Texas Department of Transportation. Tyree will report to the St. George field office at the end of June.
