Immunology Core Laboratory

Robert Bailer, Ph.D.

Description of Research Program

Dr. Bob Bailer has joined the Vaccine Research Center as the manager of the Immunology Core Laboratory. The Immunology Core Laboratory is responsible for the method development, validation and testing of all samples from VRC clinical trials. In addition, Bob is involved in the development and implementation of the VRC infrastructure to assure cGMP/GLP practices.

Bob received a B.S. in microbiology from Colorado State University, followed by four years of industrial experience at Abbott Laboratories in the Pharmaceutical Products and Diagnostic Divisions. He then went on to receive a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, followed by post-doctorate positions at The Ohio State University School of Dentistry and The Wistar Institute (Philadelphia, PA). The primary focus of his graduate and post-doctorate research was retroviral immunology. Bob then returned to industry with his most recent position as a Senior Scientist at Merck & Co., Inc. at West Point, Pa, where he provided technical support for analytical testing of licensed and new biological products. In this capacity he was involved in all aspects of method investigations, troubleshooting, improvement, transfers and validations.
