McIntyre Announces Town Hall Meeting on DTV Transition for Southeastern N.C.

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre is hosting a Town Hall meeting for residents of southeastern North Carolina regarding the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision to implement a test market for the digital television transition in Wilmington, North Carolina.

When:        Tuesday, July 15th at 6:30pm

                       Where:      Southeastern Community College
                                        45 64 Chadbourn Highway
                                        T Building, Room 101
                                        Whiteville, NC  28472

What:         Join Congressman Mike McIntyre, representatives from WWAY News Channel 3, the Federal Communications Commission, and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for a discussion on how to make the DTV transition work for you.

“The Digital Television Transition represents a huge step forward for our country.  Not only will the television viewing public enjoy a better, clearer picture and more options in programming, but the space vacated on the spectrum by analog signals will make room for additional public safety capacity, making our communities safer.

“Wilmington is taking its place in television history, not just as the home of some of our favorite TV shows like Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill, but as the first all-digital market in the entire country. In doing so, Southeastern North Carolina and the Wilmington media viewing market have the opportunity to shape this transition for the entire nation.

“That’s why it is critical that we work together, at both the public and private sectors, to make sure those citizens who need the help in keeping their TV channels on can do so with little frustrations. It is important that the FCC, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), and those of us in public service ensure that this is smooth and seemless switch to better TV for all!”
