U.S. Supports Progress at Inter-Congolese Dialogue

The United States welcomes the significant progress made in the Inter-Congolese Dialogue that just took place in Sun City, South Africa.  This is an important step towards reuniting the Congo and beginning a transition leading to fair and free elections.

We regret, however, that the Dialogue did not conclude with a comprehensive peace agreement.  We call on all Congolese to continue negotiations aimed at bringing together all the representative political groupings in an inclusive agreement.

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the Government of South Africa for its hospitality and generosity in hosting the Inter-Congolese Dialogue
