Davenport Man Sentenced On Federal Drug Charge

DAVENPORT- On May 20, 2008, David Edward Richard, age 25, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 120 months in federal prison, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Richard was sentenced after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute at least 50 grams of cocaine base from February 28, 2007 to July 30, 2007. There is no parole in the federal system. Richard was also ordered to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund and after release from prison, Richard will be subject to five years of supervised release. Richard’s co-defendant, Robert Allen Gentry Johnson, has pled guilty and is awaiting sentencing.


From approximately February 28, 2007 and continuing to on or about July 30, 2007, Richard and co-defendant Johnson were involved in an agreement to distribute cocaine base. On or about July 30, 2007, Richard was in a vehicle that was stopped and found in possession of approximately two ounces of a substance that was later determined to be cocaine base. The investigation determined that Richard received this controlled substance earlier that day from an individual later identified as Robert Allen Gentry Johnson. Richard intended to distribute some or all of this cocaine base to others. After his arrest, Richard admitted that he had been involved in receiving and distributing 1.8 kilograms of cocaine base.


This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety-Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Davenport Police Department.
