Davenport Man Sentenced to 20 Years Imprisonment for Unlawful Firearm Possession

Davenport, IA- On April 28, 2008, Robert Andre Clay, age 33, of Davenport, was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment, having previously been convicted of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a sawed-off shotgun, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Clay to serve three years on supervised release following imprisonment, and an assessment of $200 to the Crime Victim Fund.

On November 4, 2006, Davenport police officers responding to a call of a domestic dispute arrived at a residence to learn that Clay had been threatening persons with a sawed-off shotgun. After evacuating the residence of two adult females and an infant, police located Clay hiding in the attic. When Clay refused to surrender, the Davenport Emergency Services Team assembled, located Clay hiding under some attic insulation, and, after making protracted efforts to secure Clay’s surrender, took him into custody. After his arrest, Clay obstructed justice by threatening witnesses to the incident via telephone calls from Scott County Jail. Clay went to trial in September 2007 but pleaded guilty after the government completed presentation of its case.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
