DRUG OFFENDER IN PONTCHATOULA SENTENCED IN FEDERAL COURT

August 21, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DARRELL ROBINSON, age 33, a resident of Roseland, Louisiana, was sentenced yesterday by U. S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to seventy (27) months imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute at least five (5) grams of crack cocaine, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Vance imposed four (4) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the four year term the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

On May 16, 2008, ROBINSON previously entered a guilty plea before Judge Vance. According to court documents, a confidential source informed law enforcement that ROBINSON was in possession of crack cocaine. Agents arrested ROBINSON, who was wanted by state probation and parole officers. After learning that ROBINSON had another vehicle at his residence in Pontchatoula that was listed in his wife’s name, agents obtained consent to search the vehicle from the wife. Inside, agents discovered 192 individual pieces of crack cocaine totaling about 27 grams. ROBINSON then indicated that the crack belonged to him.

The Court imposed a sentence within the recommended guidelines range. After sentencing, ROBINSON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the officers of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Boitmann.
