ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGALLY REENTERING THE UNITED STATES
April 30, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EFRAIN ISIDRO PINEDA-LOZANO, 46, pled guilty before United States District Judge Jay C. Zainey to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal reentry of a deported alien previously convicted of an aggravated felony, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, in April 2007, PINEDA-LOZANO, a previously deported alien, was found in the United States in the Jefferson Parish area. PINEDA-LOZANO had been deported from the United States to Honduras in September 1993 and again in June 2000. PINEDA-LOZANO admitted that he was born in Honduras and that after his 2000 deportation, he re-entered the United States in or about November 2004. Furthermore, PINEDA-LOZANO did not receive consent from the United States Attorney General or his designated successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, to apply for readmission to the United States since the time of his previous deportation. In addition to the two deportations, PINEDA-LOZANO also has prior convictions for narcotics and immigration violations.
PINEDA-LOZANO faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a fine of $250,000 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2008.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Irene Gonzalez.
