ORLEANS PARISH MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL GUN CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RONALD A. GREENUP, 42, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to possessing a firearm after previously being convicted of a felony, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.

According to the factual basis, on August 10, 2007, while on patrol, New Orleans Police Officers witnessed GREENUP, who was riding a bicycle in the 300 block of North Robertson Street, nearly strike a motorist. When the officers attempted to investigate GREENUP’s erratic behavior, the defendant attempted to flee. Eventually, the officers apprehended GREENUP and officers discovered the a loaded .45 caliber handgun in the defendant’s waistband. Further investigation revealed that in 1986, GREENUP was convicted in Orleans Parish for forcible rape.

GREENUP faces a maximum penalty of ten (10) years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine.

This case was investigated by Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF) and the New Orleans Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Abe McGull of the Violent Crime Unit.
