FOUR ILLEGAL ALIENS INDICTED BY FEDERAL GRAND JURIES

Three illegal aliens were charged with Social Security Fraud and one illegal alien was charged with possession of a counterfeit alien card by Federal Grand Juries sitting in New Orleans in separate indictments, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

In the first indictment, JOVAN PADILLA-MALDONADO, a/k/a Jovan Padilla,a/k/a Nerson Quien, age 25, an illegal alien and resident of Mexico, was charged in a one-count indictment yesterday for misuse of a Social Security Number. According to indictment, on February 8, 2008, JOVAN PADILLA-MALDONADO used another person’s social security number to obtain educational services within the Eastern District of Louisiana. If convicted, JOVAN PADILLA-MALDONADO, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000 and one year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

In the second indictment returned yesterday, JOSE DANIEL FUENTES-VASQUEZ, a/k/a Jose Daniel Fuentes, a/k/a Jose Daniel Vasquez, age 30, an illegal alien and resident of Honduras, was charged with possession of a counterfeit Permanent Resident Alien Card. According to court documents, on February 6, 2008, JOSE DANIEL FUENTES-VASQUEZ was found with a counterfeit Permanent Resident Alien Card within the Eastern District of Louisiana. If convicted, JOSE DANIEL FUENTES-VASQUEZ, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

Also indicted on Thursday, ROBERTO HUERTA-BACA, a/k/a Samuel Melendez Morales, age 35, an illegal alien and resident of Mexico, who was charged in a one-count indictment for misuse of a Social Security Number. According to the indictment, on February 6, 2008, HUERTA-BACA used another person’s Social Security Number to obtain educational services within the Eastern District of Louisiana. If convicted, ROBERTO HUERTA-BACA
faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000, and three (3) years imprisonment.

In the two-count indictment which was returned today, NEMIAS MARCIAS-SALINA, age 26, an illegal alien and resident of Honduras, was charged with misuse of a Social Security Number and an Employment Authorization Card. According to the indictment, on February 22, 2008, MARCIAS-SALINA used another person’s Social Security Number to obtain employment within the Eastern District of Louisiana. Additionally, MARCIAS-SALINA was found to be in possession of an Employment Authorization Card that did not belong to him.

U. S. Attorney Jim Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The four cases were investigated by the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the Social Security Administration. PADILLA-MALDONADO, FUENTES-VASQUEZ and HUERTA-BACA are being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney W. Scott Laragy. MARCIAS-SALINA is being prosecution by Edward J. Rivera.
