HARVEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT TO FEDERAL GUN CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROGERS COLEMAN, III, 40, of Harvey, Louisiana, pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to being a felon-in-possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.

The defendant faces a maximum sentencing of to ten (10) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, five (5) years supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 4, 2008 at 2:00 P.M.

According to the Factual Basis filed in court, on March 22, 2007, at approximately 3:30 A.M., Jefferson Parish Deputies responding to a burglar alarm at the Café Roma in Metairie, found the defendant inside the business stealing money from video poker machines. The defendant attempted to flea but was captured a short distance away with $1,018.13 in U.S. currency in his possession.

Deputies located COLEMAN’s vehicle a short distance from Café Roma and observed a large amount of U.S. currency in an open glove box. The detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and subsequently towed it police headquarters. Pursuant to the search warrant, deputies located the a vehicle registration in the name of the defendant and a .357 caliber revolver.

The defendant has previously been convicted of several felonies in Jefferson Parish, including convictions on March 25, 1996 for simple burglary of a business, and two separate convictions on September 19, 1997 for simple burglary.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard W. Rose as part of Project Safe Neighborhood.
