RESERVE MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT TO BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RODERICK JOSEPH, 26, a resident of Reserve, Louisiana pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Stanwood Duval in federal court to being a being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.

JOSEPH faces a possible maximum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000, up to three (3) years supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28, 2008 at 9:00 A.M.

According to the factual basis, on February 19, 2007, deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office in response to a report of shots being fired, arrived at the 200 block of East 13th Street in Reserve, Louisiana. Witnesses gave the deputies descriptions of the perpetrators and told that the perpetrators ran into a trailer. After conducted a search of the trailer after receiving consent. Deputies subsequently located JOSEPH in the bathroom with a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the defendant was convicted on February 21,2002 of assault by drive-by shooting in St. John the Baptist Parish.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard W. Rose.
