NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO 71 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DEALING CRACK COCAINE

MARLON DICKERSON, age 40, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced yesterday by U. S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle to over five years (71 months) imprisonment for his involvement in the distribution of crack cocaine, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemelle imposed five (5) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the term of supervised release, the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on August 8, 2007, DICKERSON entered a guilty plea to five counts of violation of the Federal Controlled Substances Act. Specifically, DICKERSON admitted to being involved in a conspiracy to traffic crack cocaine. He further admitted to four separate distributions of crack cocaine, totaling about 28 grams, between January 16, 2007, and February 21, 2007.

The Court imposed a sentence withing the recommended guidelines range.

DICKERSON is also facing revocation of his term of supervised release from a prior for armed robbery. On January 23, 1996, a federal jury found DICKERSON guilty of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery of a mail carrier, and using a firearm during a crime of violence. Judge Edith Clement sentenced DICKERSON to a total of 138 months imprisonment and five years of supervised release. DICKERSON was released from custody on July 22, 2005, at which time his supervised release began. DICKERSON’s revocation hearing will be held before United States District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt on January 23, 2008.

This case was investigated by Agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with the officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
