ST. BERNARD MAN FACES FEDERAL INDICTMENT FOR MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABDEL KADER FALL, age 35, a resident of Saint Bernard Parish, Louisiana, was charged in a two-count indictment today by a Federal Grand Jury for making a false statement and falsely claiming to be a United States citizen, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, on January 9, 2008, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents encountered FALL who represented that he was naturalized as a United States citizen.

If convicted of Count I, FALL faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. If convicted of Count II, FALL faces a three (3) year sentence, a maximum fine of $250,000.00 and one (1) year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Sean Toomey.
