NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ONIS WILSON, age 28, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court before U. S. District Judge Stanwood R. Duval to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.
WILSON faces a possible maximum penalty of ten (10) years imprisonment. Judge Duval set a sentencing date for April 16, 2008.
According to court documents, on January 29, 2005, WILSON was stopped by the New Orleans Police Department for a traffic violation. When the officers approached the vehicle, WILSON opened the door and the officers noticed a handgun in the side compartment of the door. Upon further investigation by the officers, they discovered that WILSON had been convicted in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court for a felony, specifically Possession of Marijuana, Second Offense.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives along with officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Juan M. Masini.
