LAWYER ADMITS GUILT IN TAX EVASION CASE

GULFPORT, Miss. - U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton and Rodney Clarke, Special Agent In Charge of the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, New Orleans Field Office, announced that Jack R. Durland, Jr., formerly of Gulfport, Mississippi, pled guilty today to federal income tax evasion.

During the period alleged in the indictment, Durland served as Vice President of Gulfport Oil & Gas, and as Vice President of T.J. Oil & Gas, Inc. For the 1999 tax year, he failed to report $55,000 in salary payments from T.J. Oil. For the 2000 tax year, he failed to report $5,000 in salary payments he received from T.J. Oil.

Also for the 2000 tax year, Durland failed to report wages of $122,500 he received from Gulfport Oil & Gas. In addition, Durland failed to report oil revenue of $359,575.55 from Eagle Energy Development Co. that was payable to Gulfport Oil & Gas and Gulfport Ventures.

Durland’s additional tax liability for 1999 is $18,082.00, and for 2000 is $97,475.00. As a result, Durland has a total of $115,557 in additional tax due and owing for the years 1999 and 2000.

Durland faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant United States Attorney Gaines Cleveland is the prosecutor in charge of the case. Mr. Lampton praised the efforts of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation for their diligent work in the investigation of this case.
