The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe is a sovereign Indian Nation located in southeast King County. Their reservation falls under the joint jurisdiction of King County and Auburn, and both agencies provide basic police services.
Tribal leaders, however, wanted enhanced services for their communities. These services included providing crime prevention training, block watches, and community action programs; problem solving crime and disorder problems within the tribal community; interacting with and mentoring tribal youth; providing special emphasis to community concerns; and building partnerships with community members to prevent crime. In addition, the Muckleshoot Tribe wanted to have additional patrol deputies in the area during typically busy hours.
For these reasons, they contract with the KCSO for a full-time police force that includes a chief, 6 patrol officers, and a school resource officer.
