The City of Burien entered into a partnership with the Sheriff's Office when the city incorporated in 1993.
Burien is located in the southwest region of the county and has a population of over 31,000 residents. The Burien law enforcement team is made up of 41 patrol officers, detectives and support personnel. The officers wear city-marked uniforms and drive city-marked police cars, which help to emphasize a stronger community identity.
Chief Scott Kimerer is the police chief for Burien. Kimerer has over twenty-three years of law enforcement training and experience. He has worked in the Burien area for several years, and has a long history of working with precinct staff and community members to analyze and address crime and disorder issues in Burien. His community policing background includes coordinating the community storefront and anti-crime teams, and working on projects to reduce auto theft. Kimerer was sworn in as police chief on May 5, 2003.
Burien's Crime Prevention Unit and Special Emphasis Teams are working with our neighborhoods to develop strategies to keep us safe and solve crime problems. Chief Kimerer encourages all residents to be involved with some of their successful programs such as Block Watch and Citizen Patrol. Their Citizen Academy also provides a unique opportunity to learn about police work, and some graduates participate in the Community Emergency Response Teams that support the city in case of a disaster.
