Nonfat Dry Milk |
The fortified or non-fortified nonfat dry milk (NFDM) shall be U.S. Extra Grade, spray process. The NDM shall be subject to salmonella, penicillin and coliform testing performed by the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) at the time of grading. The penicillin and salmonella test must be negative, and the coliform count shall be not more than 10 per gram.
The non-fortified NFDM shall be low-heat, medium heat or high heat. The fortified NFDM shall contain approximately 3,000 I.U. (International Units) of Vitamin A and 600 I.U. of Vitamin D per 100 grams of NFDM.
The NFDM shall meet the following specifications:
(1) Milk fat | Not more than 1.25 %. |
(2) Moisture | Not more than 3.5 % |
(3) Bacterial Estimate | Not more than 10,000 per gram standard plate count. |
(4) Scorched Particles | Not more than 15.0 mg. |
(5) Solubility Index | Not more than 1.2 ml, except product classified as high heat may not have more than 2.0 ml. |
(6) Titratable acidity | Not more than 0.15% (lactic acid) |
PACKAGING
The non-fat dry milk shall be packaged in 25 kilogram multi-wall paper bags with a polyethylene inner liner.
