Research Station: The Setting
The PNW Research Station is one of six research stations in the
U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. The six stations,
along with the Forest Products Laboratory and the International
Institute of Tropical Forestry, collectively conduct the most extensive
and productive programs of integrated forestry research in the world.
The Pacific Northwest Research Station's headquarters is in Portland,
Oregon, with ten laboratories located in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington.
In 2002, the Station had about 522 employees, both permanent and
temporary.
Research at PNW is done within the structure of programs, which
are spread out throughout laboratories and are composed of teams.
