Keep your pets warm and well this winter
King County Animal Care and Services recommends the following basic winter tips to maintain your pet's health through the increasingly cold winter months in the Pacific Northwest.

Pet gift certificates
King County Animal Care and Services has gift certificates for last minute shoppers who want to give the gift of a pet through this responsible pet ownership program.

Emaciated farm animals rescued
King County Animal Care and Control investigators are working with law enforcement officials on a case involving a large number of emaciated livestock and fowl found in unhealthy conditions at a Covington property. The investigation is ongoing and it appears the animals are suffering from starvation.

Volunteers needed at animal shelters
King County Animal Care and Control is seeking volunteers to assist with adoptions at off-site locations for shelter pets. Several local pet supply stores are working in partnership with King County on this off-site adoption program. King County is recruiting volunteers to assist with transporting and caring for animals to be adopted at these sites.

Holiday wish list
Toys, collars, leashes, kitten formula, flea treatments, towels, bird cages, rain ponchos and flash lights are on the Holiday Wish List of animals at King County Animal Control and Care shelters and foster homes. Volunteers and staff compiled the list of things that will help them care for the hundreds of dogs and cats as well as birds, gerbils and reptiles waiting for someone to give them a permanent home.

It’s a purr-fect time for a new kitty
With oodles of fabulous felines of all ages, sizes and colors awaiting new loving homes, it’s a purr-fect time to adopt a new cat or kitten from Animal Care and Control.

Reduced animal adoption fees through November
The time has never been better to adopt an adult cat or kitten from King County's Animal Shelters. Through the end of November, the adoption price for kittens has been dropped to only $40, and adult cats are now $25.

With summer heating up, King County Animal Care and Control Officers are watching for animals left unattended in sweltering cars. Officers urge pet owners to take extra precautions to keep their furry friends healthy and safe this week and weekend, especially when traveling in the car. Warm weather poses a number of dangers for pets that can quickly turn fatal.

More than 125 pets adopted
King County residents flocked to the King County Kent Animal Shelter this morning. More than 125 cats and dogs were adopted from the 17 animal shelters and rescue groups at the event.
