Weed & Seed

Weed and Seed is the Department of Justice's longest-standing law enforcement and community partnership. The community based and community driven initiative is innovative and comprehensive, and it has a multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and community revitalization. While providing general guidelines, Weed Seed permits communities to work with their United States Attorney, local, state, and federal officials, community agencies, and community residents to design the strategies most effective for them.

The United States Attorneys in districts with Weed & Seed sites monitor each community strategy and assist as much as possible with coordinating both the "weeding" out of crime and the "seeding" of coordination, partnership, and social services. Across the country many communities have developed Weed and Seed strategies to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in targeted high-crime neighborhoods. For more information about the Weed & Seed success stories nationally and to learn more about Weed & Seed generally, visit www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ccdo/ws/welcome.html.

The Northern District of Georgia has two Weed & Seed sites. They are in the City of Atlanta and in the City of East Point. The City of Atlanta's presently targeted areas are located in two neighborhoods, Mechanicsville and Pittsburgh. The City of East Point's presently targeted areas are the Central District and East Washington. Both of these sites are seeking to add new Weed & Seed neighborhoods.
