GARRETT INDICTED IN KIDNAPPING CASE, HELD IN MICHIGAN

April 29, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

David E. Nahmias, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, and Gregory Jones, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, announce that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment against MICHAEL RENE GARRETT, 26, of Morrow, Georgia, on charges of kidnapping. According to Nahmias and the indictment:

On January 31, 2005, GARRETT kidnapped another person, using a stolen 2000 Toyota Avalon, and transported that person to South Carolina from Georgia.

GARRETT was arrested today in Michigan.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden to prove a defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. Assistant United States Attorney Robert McBurney is prosecuting the case.
