Sale or Receipt of Stolen Motor Vehicles
|
Section 2313 of Title 18 makes it an offense to receive, possess,
conceal, store, barter, sell or dispose of any motor vehicle or aircraft
which
has crossed a State or United States boundary after being stolen, knowing
the
same to have been stolen.
Federal criminal jurisdiction over a stolen motor vehicle attaches
once
it crosses a state line after having been stolen, and continues even after
it
ceases to be a part of interstate commerce. This statute is particularly
applicable to investigations and prosecution of chop shop operations.
