Sale or Receipt of Stolen Motor Vehicles

Section 2313 of Title 18 makes it an offense to receive, possess, conceal, store, barter, sell or dispose of any motor vehicle or aircraft which has crossed a State or United States boundary after being stolen, knowing the same to have been stolen.

Federal criminal jurisdiction over a stolen motor vehicle attaches once it crosses a state line after having been stolen, and continues even after it ceases to be a part of interstate commerce. This statute is particularly applicable to investigations and prosecution of chop shop operations.
