Public Affairs Office: Nursing Advisory Committee selections

VA Puget Sound nurses to serve on national advisory committees

Congratulations to two VA Puget Sound nurses! They were recently selected amongst their peers to serve on VA’s National Field Advisory Committees for the National Nursing Practice Program.

Cynthia Dougherty ARNP, PhD and Linda Haas RN, MN and were selected to participate on the newly formed committees to serve 2-year terms. Ms. Dougherty participates on the Cardiovascular Committee and Ms. Haas on the Diabetes Committee.

The selection process for the committees was based on the applicants’ education, experience, last performance evaluation and recommendations from the medical center. The final selections were made by Cathy Rick, VA’s Chief Nursing Officer.

The field advisory committees are responsible for defining recommendations for the assessment and design of a broad range of specialty nursing practice initiatives and evaluation of nursing-sensitive clinical outcomes in all care settings. The committees will also identify and develop recommendations for best practices, practice guidelines, patient care standards, and policy guidance.

Each committee will meet monthly via teleconference and annually in-person while the members serve out 2-year terms.
