NATIONAL HIV/AIDS OBSERVANCE DAYS
Message
A number of national and global observances are held annually to help us understand and fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The Department of Health and Human Services is using all of its resources to combat the disease, and one way it is doing so is by supporting these observances, which help raise awareness and spread information about HIV/AIDS.

National Black AIDS Awareness Day
February 7 is National Black AIDS Awareness Day, a day to focus on work by public health officials and leaders in the African American community to jointly marshal their efforts against the AIDS epidemic. Read more.
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
March 10 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a day to recognize the female face of HIV/AIDS in America. Read more.
National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
March 20 is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. It is a day to reflect on the significant toll of HIV/AIDS on native people, including American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians, and to salute the individuals who assist people living with HIV in these communities and who provide the services needed to help prevent further infections. National Asian and Pacific Islander AIDS Awareness Day
May 19 is National Asian and Pacific Islander AIDS Awareness Day, a time to honor those who have dedicated themselves to promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and education among people of Asian and Pacific Island heritage and to recommit ourselves to stopping this deadly disease from spreading within our communities. National Latino AIDS Awareness Day
October 15 is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, a day to focus on the impact of HIV/AIDS in the Latino population and recommit to working together to curb the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS in this and other minority communities in the United States. Read more.
World AIDS Day
December 1 is World AIDS Day. NIH joins with people around the globe in commemorating World AIDS Day.
BACKGROUND
The Dale and Betty Bumpers Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institutes of Health was established to facilitate research in vaccine development.
