Summary of Major Surveillance Activities

Surveillance is the ongoing collection, analysis, and interpretation of data from generalizable samples. CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) collects data on youth and school health policies and programs.

On Youth: Health and Behavior Statistics

YRBSS
Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System monitors six categories of priority health-risk behaviors among youth and young adults at the national, state, and local levels.

YRBSS includes Youth Online: Comprehensive Results. Youth Online is an interactive system that allows comparisons of comprehensive results from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Data are available from 1991-2005.

GSHS
Global School-based Student Health Survey is a school-based survey conducted primarily among students aged 13–15 years.

Healthy Passages
Healthy Passages is a longitudinal study designed to understand what parents, schools, and communities can do to help keep children healthy.

On Schools: Health Policies and Programs

Profiles
School Health Profiles
monitors characteristics of health education in middle or junior high schools and senior high schools in the United States. The Profiles uses school-based surveys conducted by state and district education agencies.

SHPPS
School Health Policies and Programs Study is a national survey periodically conducted to assess school health policies and programs at the state, district, school, and classroom levels.
