The New Challenge for TB Research

An ancient disease, TB remains one of the major causes of disability and death worldwide. In 2006, 9.2 million new cases of TB emerged and TB killed 1.7 million people. NIAID is examining TB at its fundamental levels through research aimed at developing faster diagnostic tools, better vaccines, and shorter treatment times.
