Sustainable tourism projects promote a range of strategic objectives for USAID.

USAID’s development work focuses on promoting economic growth and improving livelihoods by assisting and empowering local populations to manage their own resources. Sustainable Tourism offers opportunities that enable economic growth to be integrated with natural resource management and biodiversity conservation, while helping to meet additional objectives such as poverty reduction, gender equity, and local governance.

Four particularly successful USAID initiatives are highlighted below.
