GOV. RITTER ANNOUNCES 40 MORE E85 ETHANOL FUEL PUMPS TO OPEN STATEWIDE

As part of his commitment to a New Energy Economy, Gov. Bill Ritter announced today that 40 new E85 ethanol fuel pumps will open statewide over the next year. Colorado is the largest beneficiary of a 12-state public-private partnership by General Motors to expand the availability of E85, a fuel made from a combination of 15% gasoline and 85% ethanol.

"One of my top priorities is to establish a New Energy Economy for Colorado built around renewable and cleaner sources of energy," Gov. Ritter said. "Today we're announcing some major progress towards that goal. By the end of 2007, there will be 50 E85 ethanol fuel sites in Colorado, up from the 13 we have now."

In addition to General Motors¿ national effort, the Colorado expansion has been spearheaded by the Colorado E85 Coalition, a group of private companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies dedicated to increasing Colorado's use of renewable fuels. Two Colorado retailers, Pester Marketing and Western Convenience, will be installing E85 pumps in a total of 22 stations statewide with assistance from the Colorado E85 Coalition.

"During my campaign, we drove more than 25,000 miles across Colorado in an E85 flex fuel vehicle," said Gov. Ritter. "And in about three months, I'll begin using a flex fuel vehicle for day-to-day state business. So now it will be easier for me and for all Colorado drivers to find an E85 pump near them."
