National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention

The mission of the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention is to facilitate national skin cancer awareness and prevention efforts through education and promotion of sun safe behaviors. The goals of the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention are to:

  • Coordinate a public health response to nationwide efforts to reduce skin cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality, by sharing research findings, planning joint programs and conferences, and creating audience-specific initiatives.

  • Raise the importance of skin cancer prevention and support prevention initiatives on the agendas of relevant national, state, and local organizations.

  • Develop and support partnerships to extend and reinforce core recommendations and encourage behavior change.

  • Increase skin cancer awareness and prevention behaviors among all populations, with special attention to high-risk populations (including children, young adults, outdoor workers, and athletes) through education to health professionals, parents, teachers, and the public.

CDC coordinates meetings and activities of the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention. The American Academy of Dermatology, American Cancer Society, and The Skin Cancer Foundation served as cosponsors until 2005.
