I’m Too Young For This!

The I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation for Young Adults (i[2]y), formerly called Steps For Living, is a global support community for young adults affected by cancer. Its mission is to improve quality of life by providing one-stop access to hard-to-find resources, peer support, and social networks. i[2]y uses music and the arts to make it hip to be a survivor. It advocates on behalf of more than 200 young adult support resources and 1 million survivors worldwide aged 15–39.

i[2]y takes a collaborative and noncompetitive approach by serving as a communications umbrella that connects patients, providers, and resources. i[2]y has created an international social community for young adults affected by cancer. It aims to challenge the way people think about "cure" and mobilize young adults through the wealth of community by ending isolation and celebrating survivorship.

Partnership Activities

In July 2006, CDC collaborated with Steps For Living on communications outreach activities at the 2006 Cancer Partners Summit, a component of the 2006 UICC World Cancer Congress, held at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.

These efforts, called Both Sides of the Coin, focused on raising public awareness about cancer survivorship, specifically the relationship that doctor and patient share before, during, and after treatment. The centerpiece was an 18-track CD, a first-of-its-kind compilation featuring piano solos composed by two acclaimed recording artists: Dr. Adam Dachman, a cancer surgeon, and Matthew Zachary, a cancer survivor.

Both Sides of the Coin was distributed to more than 1,500 world leaders in public health, oncology, and medical communications. The album is used as part of i[2]y's advocacy programming to enhance doctor-patient relationships worldwide.
