C-Change

The purpose of the C-Change, formerly called the National Dialogue on Cancer (NDC), is to act as a catalyst in eradicating cancer as a major public health problem at the earliest possible time. The short term goal is to prevent an additional 1 million new cancer cases and 500,000 cancer deaths. C-Change shares information; helps identify barriers, gaps, and opportunities related to its mission; seeks agreement on critical national priorities and supportive actions; and facilitates independent and collaborative efforts to achieve common goals.

C-Change is a forum comprised of key leaders from public, private, and nonprofit entities with a common goal of fostering and supporting efforts to overcome cancer. C-Change functions like a virtual "town hall meeting" where distinguished national leaders concerned about the disease come together as a united force at least twice a year to discuss major cancer-related issues. This forum encourages not only individual efforts by its participants, but promotes collaboration among some or all of C-Change partners on major issues.

Partnership Activities

In September 2003, CDC participated in a summit convened by C-Change's Primary Prevention and Early Detection Team to focus on unmet needs in cancer prevention and early detection and developing measurable actions which will ensure that these needs are met. To map the future of cancer prevention and early detection for the nation, participants at the summit identified specific actions that can be taken to overcome barriers to improving cancer prevention and early detection outcomes.

DCPC, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) staff C-Change's State Cancer Plans Team. The responsibilities of this duty include assisting with correspondence, budgeting, setting priorities, accomplishing the work objectives of the team, and engaging members in team activities. The State Cancer Plans Team also provides updates to its members about what CDC is doing as part of the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCC) to develop state plans for comprehensive cancer control. C-Change has also provided direct technical assistance to several states for cancer planning efforts.
